I had been calling a friend who relocated from the area last year. It was unlike her, but I had not heard back. Just last week I received an Email – explaining that she had been hit by a drunk driver. Apparently, a young woman crossed the highway and drove directly into her car. Her husband sufferred a sprained ankel. My friend, two broken legs, a broken vertebrae, broken ribs . . . . much time to mend, much rehab, continued physical therapy. She is just now able to place weight on her legs.
Emotional pain – anger, hurt disbelief, anger – - physical pain, a loss of independence, and uncertainly about future functioning. Her attitude – rock on! Positive, hopeful, determined . . .she is an inspiration.
Life can change in a moment. When it does, we dig deep to find strength we didn’t know was there.
